When I read this article, I told myself it could not happened in USA, most unbelievable in New York, the capital of the world in terms of culture, because when you think about United States, you always think that this country is one of the most important countries in the world. But this time is different because in the last english test students of New York got the worst level among the others states.
The superintendent of New York, Mr. Pierorazio said that it is was because there were a large number of students from other countries who were still learning english in New York.
Under a new federal requirement, students enrolled in school in USA for at least a year must take the state tests. Previously, students with less than three years of english classes were exempted from the tests.
Mr. Pierorazio said, this happened because there were students who are coming from other nations and being immersed in english for 10 months and then asked to perform at a proficient level, this didn't reflect the true of the test.
Norma Grohowski, was dissapointed about the scores of this test, she said it is also a parents' responsibility.
"I don't know why it dropped, but everybody is trying to do their best to keep the scores up, both the parents and the schools", she said.
